This program allows healthy food be available for low-income individuals.
The Food Stamp Program is for US citizens and some aliens who are admitted for permanent residency may qualify. Individuals who are unemployed, able-able bodied and people with no dependent children has now been given time limitions on benefits.

THE FOOD STAMP PROGRAM IS FOR:
-Households whose bank account is not over $2000 in countable resources. House and lot are not counted. Resource value of vehicles owned by household members are determined by special rules.
-The gross monthly income of most households must be 130 percent or less of the Federal poverty guidelines.
-Adult who are able-bodied who has met certain work requirements.
-Individuals whose net monthly income must be 100 percent or less of Federal poverty guideline.
-All members of the household who has provided their Social Security number.
***The Office on Management and Budget have established these Federal poverty guidelines. The Depertment of Health and Human Resources are responsible for the annual update of these guidelines.***
Contact your local food stamp office for information about the Food Stamp Program and how to apply for benefits. You may check the State or Local government pages of the telephone book for the numbers of your loval office. You may check the sections: "Food Stamps," "Social Services," "Human Services," "Public Assisstance," or a similar title.

HOW TO CLAIM FOOD STAMPS?

You may go to your local food stamp office and fill out the necessary application. Applications can be submitted the same day. You may also request a form to be sent to you by calling the office, fill it in and send the application by mail or thru fax. You will given an appointment for an interview by the local office. Remember to send your application quickly even if you dont have the time to finish it completely as the Food Stamp program works by prorating the first month's benefit from the day the local office gets your application. Just provide your local office your complete name, address and signature, in case you can't complete the form immediately.
It is advised that you do not call the FNS headquarter to apply As hey dont handle applications for the Food Stamp Program. Each state has it's own application form to be filled up.
